Individual Quick Frozen (IQF) Method
Just what is IQF? Frozen foods have outstanding quality and nutritive value. The high quality of frozen foods is mainly due to the development of a technology known as the individually quick-frozen (IQF) method. Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) products are frozen while spread in a single layer on a slowly moving conveyer through sub-zero air. The product results in a free-flowing material. IQF products are a great alternative to fresh. The fresh products are washed, sanitized and in some cases blanched to reduce the micro load, and then frozen. This stops additional micro growth and allows for extended shelf life storage, without microbiological degradation. IQF is a method that does not allow large ice crystals to form in vegetable cells. Also, since each piece is individually frozen, particles do not cohere, and the final product is not frozen into a solid block. Various freezing techniques are commonly used in the preservation of vegetables. The choice of method depends on the quality of end product desired, the kind of vegetable to be frozen, capital limitations, and whether or not the products are to be stored as bulk or as individual retail packages. Also IQF products can be easily tested with a certificate of analysis showing the complete profile results of the finished product. With IQF products there is nothing there but what you are wanting, just the freshest frozen product available.
